The vehicle was stopped on Highway 118 at about 9:10 p.m. between Dartmouth and the Miller Lake exit, said Halifax Police Sgt. Scott MacDonald.

All four people in the vehicle will be charged with weapons-related offences. Three of the men will be released to appear in court at a later time.

One 27-year-old man was held in custody overnight. He was expected to be arraigned today on weapons charges and a charge of breaching recognizance orders, the officer said.

Jimmy Melvin Jr. is expected to appear in Dartmouth provincial court this morning after police stopped a car carrying four men and a large can of pepper spray Tuesday night.

Sources told the Chronicle Herald the convicted drug dealer was in a car police stopped on Highway 118 between Dartmouth and the Miller Lake exit about 9:10 p.m., but Halifax Regional Police haven’t confirmed that.

“We received information of a male party (in a vehicle) in violation of his court conditions,” police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said Wednesday.

“We responded and observed the vehicle leaving. The vehicle was also seen (to be) in violation of a number of Motor Vehicle Acts prior to us having the opportunity to stop it. The vehicle was stopped . . . and the four arrests were made.”

On Tuesday night, police said all four people will be charged with weapons-related offences. Three of the men were released to appear in court at a later time, but a 27-year-old was held in custody overnight.

Mr. Melvin, who is 27, was expected to be arraigned today on weapons charges and a charge of breaching recognizance orders.
